Pepco came out and read the meter after all.  I just got off the phone with the first Pepco CSR who didn't make me want to break things.  He said the meter was read yesterday, and we've used 4344 kilowatt hours since we moved in.  Our latest bill was for 7942 kilowatt hours, or 183% of our actual electricity usage.  Based on what they charged us on our latest bill, I think that's about $450 that we've paid them that we don't owe them.

Actually, I haven't technically paid the latest bill.  I scheduled it, but it hasn't gone through yet.  But apparently they can't cancel the payment once I have a confirmation number, which is crap, but whatever.  We aren't going to pay another bill for a few months.

I'm not sure why I had to be home yesterday.  They read the meter after I left for work, despite their claims that someone had to be at the house.

pepco sucks they turn my

pepco sucks they turn my electric off for nothing just moved into a rental proper a week ago a pepco employer knocked on my door stating that he was going to turn off the power because I need to transfer the bill in my name, he stated I could do this online so I did Pepco claim someone will notify me a course no one did yet a week later my kids call me from work stating that the power was off so I called Pepco after being on hold for twenty five minutes the lady stated my electric had been disconnected for not switching it in my name I explained that I did it online but then she decided to check and say oh yea you did but you still have to take your lease to a local Pepco building now Im hot and steaming don't you think before shutting off someones power you should call them and let them know what they need to do before pulling the plug/ Yet its been all day yesterday 8/17/10 and here now 8/18/10 still no power all my food has spoiled but do they care. I have a sick child who has medical equipment that needs to be plugged up but do they care hell no. Call back if no one shows up by two a clock what a load of crap. Pepco truly sucks they get a zero in my book!

Have been dealing with Pepco

Have been dealing with Pepco billing nonsense since May, although they haven't disconnected power yet. Initial bill, for less than a week's worth of service in a small one-room office, was over $5,000. We disputed. Subsequent usage has been about $16 -- but they still think we owe the 5 grand (plus late fees etc.). It boggles my mind that they can't get accurate meter readings and get this figured out! Just how incompetent are these folks anyway?
