I'm tired of the way Complaint Hub looks.  I've just been over at Candy Blog, run by Nanowrimo big shot Cybele, and I really like the design.  It's not what I'm looking for, but it fits her site really well.  And that's what I want here - a design that fits my site.  Then the question becomes, what sort of a design is right for a blog about complaining?  I don't know.  I'd like to do something myself, but WordPress uses PHP, and I have pretty limited PHP experience.  I suppose it would be good to learn.

You could always pay someone

You could always pay someone to make a nice custom template for you. You could even pay someone out of the US for really cheap if you wanted to... check out oDesk.com, where it's easy to outsource, and then hard to sleep at night knowing you're killing American jobs.

I could pay someone, but

I could pay someone, but since I make a living building web sites, it's a little hard for me to pay someone to do something I should be able to do myself.

Thanks for the compliment on

Thanks for the compliment on my site. I acutally did pay someone for both the design and the custom coding (Hops Studios). It's built on Expression Engine (a PMachine product). Pretty powerful stuff that also has a built in Wiki and Forums module. (Forums may be the way you want to go with the "file your own complaint" portion.)

It took me about 6 months to arrive at a list of the features that I wanted and a general system of how I wanted the layout to work (nav on the left, additional content - photos, headlines, polls - on the far right, etc.).

I'm pretty good at tweaking the existing template, but I dont' think I could ever build something like that from scratch. And yes, I work as a web professional too (though my dayjob also has me in charge of a team of programmers ... I don't do it myself).

Expression Engine looks like

Expression Engine looks like a little more than I really need - my dozen daily visitors and total lack of income from the site don't really justify anything that powerful (you know, actually spending money on something). But it looks cool.

Start with oswd.org. Should

Start with oswd.org. Should be easy to take something simple there and showhorn it into whatever-the-crap template you have to use.
