Over the weekend, I noticed that someone stole the Bell's Beer sticker off the back window of our car. It may have happened over Halloween, I haven't been paying that much attention to the car.
I like to think that the person who did it felt that I was promoting drinking and driving, and stole the sticker as a protest. I wasn't, for the record, promoting drinking and driving - one of the huge advantages about living somewhere like Columbia Heights is that there are tons of places you can go drink where you never ever ever have to drive home. Wonderland, Marx Cafe, Saint Ex, all fantastic bars that I can walk to easily, not to mention everything on U Street and Adams Morgan.
Anyway, if the person felt I was making a statement like that, then I forgive you for your misguided attempt to make the world a better place. If not, however, I hope you got a paper cut from the sticker.
It's not a big deal in either case - those stickers only last a year or so, and I'll be back in Kalamazoo next month, when I planned to get a new sticker anyway.
If anyone who works for Bell's is listening - how about some inside-window stickers so it's safe from the elements and from would-be thieves?

Seriously, the wife loves Oberon, which is a summer wheat beer. I like the Two Hearted Ale, and I'm looking forward to drinking some winter stouts and heavy ales at their brewpub with my brothers-in-law over Christmas.
I've never had one of theirs that wasn't good. Do they distribute near you?

As I was called out specifically, I will recommend: Two Hearted if you like pale ales (not quite an IPA, but good); Double Cream Stout if you like dark beers; Third Coast is also good; finally, and I don't know if you can get it in bottles, is Hell Hath No Fury. i'd really like to know what's going on in the head of one who steals a bell's sticker off your car. if it was indeed someone who thought you were promoting drinking and driving, what right do they have to take your sticker? is stealing a lesser offense? why would they even think you are promoting drinking and driving? i don't get that. i once had a person take issue with the fact that i had a bell's bottle opener key chain (this is after i used it to open a beer for her). she said, "yeah, i don't like key chains with bottle openers on them, i think it encourages drinking and driving." i asked her, "seriously? because i think it encourages me to keep track of my opener, display pride in a favorite microbrewery, and open your drink for you. the key to my mailbox is on this bell's chain. maybe that explains my uncontrollable urge to drink and collect my mail." rubbish. i would rather have my sticker (or key chain) stolen by someone who really loves bell's beer.
