More "as a result of you", but that's not such a snappy headline.
As many of you may know, they have closed off a bunch of streets downtown until the Inauguration. I hear it's because Obama has moved into the area earlier than expected, so there wasn't a spot for him on the White House grounds. I don't know if this is the case, and don't really care.
My problem is that they've interrupted the S2/S4 bus route, and I had to get off at 16th and K NW this morning. In the rain. And now my pants are soaking wet from the walk.
And WMATA is no help - it took me 20 minutes last night to find any information about the detour beyond "there is a detour", and I still don't know what the next stop after 16th and K is. It's somewhere near 13th and H, I think, but I generally get off at the stop I know rather than hope that the next one is better.
In any event, this is just one more reason that January 20th can't come soon enough.

(thanks for giving me a double-take at the headline)
No matter what the event: motorcade, security-related streets blocked off, police officer's funeral... No matter how far in advance WMATA gets the information, no one on staff ever seems prepared to tell you what's going on.
I have numerous form-letter apologies from them when I couldn't find detour or delay information online or over the phone while watching buses drive right past me or put me out well before the end of the route. Such fun!
They usually make it so hard
They usually make it so hard to find anything on the website - can't I just get a nice Google Map with the bus route and stops marked on it?
Form letters sound fun, though. Do I have to write them a letter to get one? I could start a collection along with my ticket contestation replies.
Well there's this rather
Well there's this rather confusing page from WMATA using a Google Maps mashup with NextBus. But as far as a real partnership between them and Google, it's been reported as a simple "No way, Jose!"
Over time I think people have just naturally lowered their expectations of Metro to where expecting to get from point A to point B is about 50/50.
Well, that map is actually
Well, that map is actually sort of helpful. It suggests that I made the right choice in getting off at 16th and K - the next stop probably isn't any closer.
Take it with a grain of salt
Take it with a grain of salt and just accept that this is the price you pay for living in D.C.
It's actually not as bad as
It's actually not as bad as it seemed at first. My bus home isn't detoured, and when it's not raining I generally walk to work instead of taking the bus.
Obama was staying at the Hay
Obama was staying at the Hay Adams 2 blocks north of the White House on 16th I believe. Secret Service pretty much closed off everything surrounding it but I think he moved into the Blare House last night so it might ease up. But when it comes to the 20th just dont try to leave your house. At least nothing other than walking. Most of DC is a no parking zone and parts are even no biking.
